The Work breakdown structure is a favorite tool for diving into a project and separating the deliverables into well-defined pieces that are actionable. The WBS starts with the highest-level goals and breaks them down into a hierarchy of deliverables and outcomes one level at a time, until each manageable piece makes sense.
